Resilient Engineering, Resilient Communities.

UCI is committed to creating a home that not only benefits the occupants, but also contributes to the overall well-being of the community. The use of sustainable materials and practices helps to reduce the environmental impact for the home, ensuring a better, more LUCID future for everyone.

 FAQs

  • Nearly 20 college teams—many from California, others from across the world—are currently designing innovative homes of the future that are powered by renewable energy. The teams will assemble and display the homes at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, CA, at a major public event October 5-15, 2023.

Officials will evaluate the homes based on 10 contests. The winners will be those teams that best blend affordability, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal renewable energy production, energy efficiency, and sustainability.
